GaHee Park, of Hunter College, City University of New York, was awarded the 2016 Dedalus Foundation MFA Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture. The Fellowship carries a $25,000 stipend.

A native of Seoul, South Korea, much of GaHee Park’s work address the subjectivity of norms she faced moving between cultures and countries. Particularly the paradox of the cultural freedom, and racial subjugation and stereotyping she has experienced since coming to the United States. Her paintings often express her otherness as she adopts the perspective of domesticated animals and plants “observing” scenes of human behavior.
