Late July-September 1947

Motherwell moves into his new Quonset hut house in East Hampton, designed by Pierre Chareau. As the first modern home built in the Hamptons the house immediately attracts wide attention. The first works Motherwell paints in his new studio are Personage with Yellow Ochre and White (P64) and Woman in Green (P61), done in August, and The Emperor of China (P68) painted in September.
