Robert Motherwell: The Complete Prints 1940-1991, by Siri Engberg and Joan Banach, is the most recent and authoritative catalogue raisonné of Motherwell’s graphic oeuvre. Published in 2003 by the Walker Art Center and distributed by Hudson Hills Press, New York, it is the definitive reference for this aspect of Motherwell’s achievement.
This book, which documents 536 print editions, supercedes earlier complete catalogues of Motherwell’s prints. It includes an essay on Motherwell’s printmaking history by Siri Engberg, catalogue entries and an illustrated chronology by Joan Banach, and a comprehensive bibliography and exhibition history. A concordance provides cross-references to earlier catalogues of Motherwell’s prints and to the catalogues raisonnés of three of Motherwell’s most important printers: Gemini G.E.L., Tyler Graphics Ltd., and Universal Limited Art Editions.
