Rights & Reproductions: Electronic Media Guidelines
1. The reproduction must be full color or full-tone black and white. Nothing may be superimposed on the reproduction, such as lettering, tone, or another image. Nothing may be artificially added to the borders of images which might appear to be an integral part of the work of art.
2. In relation to borders of images in video and digital media, the image must be presented with a neutral frame proportionate to the size of the work of art so that the entire work of art will appear. Each work must be reproduced in its entirety and the reproduction may not be cropped in any way. Details may be reproduced only if the total image is also reproduced. A detail is defined as a section of an image that comprises 70% or less of the full image; any higher percentage is considered cropping and is unacceptable.
3. A caption documenting each work must be placed in close proximity to the reproduction and must include the artist’s name, title of work, date of work, medium, size, ownership credit, and a copyright notice as follows: Art © Dedalus Foundation, Inc./Licensed by VAGA, New York, NY.
The following caption must be included next to any text by Motherwell: Text © Dedalus Foundation, Inc./Licensed by VAGA. New York, NY
4. The Dedalus Foundation discourages downloading, copying and printing of images from digital files. These operations are permitted only when the image is reproduced at low resolution (72 DPI) and the copyright credit appears immediately below the image. File Sharing (i.e.: LAN environment) from digital files and programs is also discouraged, but may be authorized under certain conditions on a case-by-case basis.
5. Prior to publication, rights to reproduce any image or text by Motherwell must be cleared in writing with the Foundation’s copyright agent, VAGA (Visual Artists and Galleries Association, Inc.), 350 Fifth Ave, Suite 2820, New York, N.Y. 10118 (phone: 212-736-6666; fax: 212- 736-6767; email: ). VAGA works in consort with the Foundation to ensure that all rights are cleared in accordance with the Foundation’s specific requirements.
