Programs / Fellowships & Awards

Alumni Fund

The Dedalus Alumni Fund (formerly the Fund for Past Fellows and Awardees) is intended to lend targeted, ongoing support to our outstanding past awardees, who continue to pursue ambitious artistic or scholarly projects within their respective fields. Beginning in 2026, the Alumni Fund will offer two forms of support to past Dedalus fellows, awardees, and interns: 1) grants to individuals and 2) funding for alumni working with non-profit partners.
Applications will be accepted throughout the year and will be reviewed in cycles. The cycle deadlines are: March 3, July 15, and November 2.

Eligible alumni include Dedalus Foundation Senior Fellows, MFA Fellows, Dissertation Fellows, High School Scholarship winners, Robert Motherwell Book Award and Robert Motherwell First Book Award winners, and past interns.

 

Cycle Guidelines

Individuals may apply for both funding opportunities within the same cycle.
Individual applicants may reapply for each award once every three years. Nonprofit institutions may apply for funding in consecutive cycles, provided they work with different alumni.
Grant recipients will be selected and announced two weeks after each cycle’s deadline.

Grants to Individuals

Grants will vary according to the needs of the project, with a maximum of $3,000. Proposals should be project-based with funding serving a specific purpose. The grant contemplates purposes including: art supplies; education related expenses; framing and shipping of artworks; website development; travel and other expenses incidental to attending conferences and residencies, including childcare or eldercare; or payment of assistants or consultants (i.e. studio or editorial help toward a project).

This grant cannot be used for: healthcare or emergency medical expenses, general living expenses, or major capital investments.

Grants to Non-Profit Institutions

Alumni working with non-profit institutional partners are eligible for funding of up to $10,000 in support of their projects. Contemplated purposes include publishing subventions, exhibitions, and other related initiatives. For this award, applications must be submitted by the institutional partner (e.g. museums or university presses) and co-signed by the alum. Funds will be disbursed directly to the institutional partner.

The program prioritizes projects in which the alum plays a central role in the conception and leadership of the work, while remaining open to multi-contributor projects on a case-by-case basis. The program does not support attendance at artist residencies or retreats.

Applications will be reviewed on the same cycle as the individual awards.
