This work was illustrated with a black and write photograph in the Catalogue Raisonné and the Comments noted that we were “not certain the work exists in the form illustrated here” and dated the work as being from “around 1959.”
The work is illustrated here in color for the first time and the date has been changed It is 1958 to reflect the inscription on the verso. This painting was given by Motherwell to an official at the Dalton School in New York, which his daughters attended in the early 1960s.
