This work was illustrated with a black-and-white photograph in the 2012 Catalogue Raisonné and dated “around 1959.” It is illustrated here in color for the first time and the date has been changed to 1958 to reflect the inscription on the verso. This painting was given by Motherwell to an official at the Dalton School in New York, which his daughters attended in the early 1960s.
