The reproduction of this painting in the 2012 Catalogue Raisonné was not the final version of the work.
The painting was begun in 1987, and two earlier versions of it were consigned to Knoedler & Company in 1988 and 1989. Motherwell continued to revise the work until it was sent to his Artcurial exhibition in September 1990, but the final version was not photographed at that time.
