The pasted paper on this collage is a label from a bottle of 1949 Château Cheval Blanc wine. Similar labels can be seen in several other 1968 collages (see C250 and C251). The recto inscription is to Rebecca and Bernard Reis, who were friends of Motherwell’s since the early 1940s when Bernard became his accountant.
