Comments
This was the first of many prints made in collaboration with Catherine Mosley, who worked in Motherwell's Greenwich, Connecticut, and Provincetown, Massachusetts, studios until the artist's death in 1991. Over the years, Mosley was assisted by the following individuals: Jennifer Melby (1973-1976); Dorothy Belknap (1976-1979); Diana Donaldson (1980-1988); Janis Stemmermann (1988-1990); and Sun Han (1990-1991). Though all of the prints Motherwell made with Mosley were proofed in the artist's studios, final editioning of some projects was done in Mosley's New York studio. Mosley changed the spelling of her name from Mosley in 1985. The revised spelling is used throughout this book, though previous cataloguings of Motherwell's prints have used the earlier spelling.
