Comments

The six lithographs that compose this sequence are related to a small number of black paintings done in 1973 in similar vertical formats. In each, a central shape that looks like a stone floats between incised vertical lines. Motherwell frequently drew by incising the ground plane in many formats, particularly in paintings and collages.
