Comments
This print, with its obvious reference to landscape, is based on a painting on paper of the same title from 1960. The gestural figure is silhouetted and floats between horizontal stripes against a flat ground. To accommodate Motherwell's desire that the colors blend in a manner closely approximating the surface qualities of a painting. Zigmunds Priede printed consecutive inkings quickly without waiting for each color to dry.
