Robert Motherwell was a prolific artist whose innovative body of work encompassed a wide range of imagery and media. Over his fifty-year career, he created both intimate and monumental paintings, spontaneous and deliberate drawings, and a wide range of groundbreaking collages. His diverse themes and motifs reflected a broad spectrum of expression, from the somber Elegies to the lyrical Opens and the elegantly dissonant collages.
