Motherwell donated this edition to a program titled "Mémoire Artistique de la Liberté" sponsored by France Liberté-Fondation Danielle Mitterand, Paris. It was organized to mark the bicentenary in 1989 of the French Revolution of 1789 and the fortieth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights as a testament to peace and freedom. France Liberté was created by François Mitterand in 1981, and coordinated with Art Multi and Art Surface in Paris on the organization of the project. Proceeds from soles of the works were donated to the foundation to assist in its humanitarian and educational programs. A book documenting the project was published by Éditions Géfart, Paris, in several languages. It was donated to heads of state, museum officials, the international press, and national libraries, and served as a catalogue for the exhibitions. The works were exhibited at the Paris Opera on December 10, 1989, and at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 1991. Artists participating in the project included Valério Adami, Pierre Alechinsky, Arakawa, Fernandes Arman, Richard Artschwager, Benjamin Vautier (Ben), Joseph Beuys, Bram Bogart, Chong Ha Byun, Luis Caballero, César, Sandro Chia, Christo, Robert Combras, Guillaume Beverloo Corneille, José.
