12 colors (including 2 pulp colors and 3 dye colors) printed in 12 steps from 11 aluminum plates: 1. medium yellow and light blue pulp colors and light yellow, medium yellow, and dark yellow dyes applied to white base sheet; 2. yellow – plate; 3. blue – plate; 4. transparent yellow (right side) – plate; 5. transparent yellow (left side) – plate; 6. medium yellow (right side) – plate; 7. medium yellow (left side) – plate; 8. transparent blue (right side) – plate; 11. medium blue (left side) – plate; 12. brown – plate




Untitled (Blue and Yellow Elegy Drawing) was the maquette for this print. The drawing was executed in 1980 on Mylar film and is distinguished by transparent applications of thinned acrylic paint. The horizontal proportions of the composition recall Motherwell's mural paintings of the 1950s.
