This lithograph was Motherwell's first use of an Open motif in a print and was one of six original graphics included in the book La Réalité en sa totalité by Philippe Lepatre, published by Editions Georges Fall, Paris, in 1968. In addition to Motherwell, the participating artists were Olivier Debré, Hans Hartung, Philippe Lepatre, Alberto Magnelli, and Antoni Tápies. The book was presented in two formats. The limited-edition format was printed in 70 examples divided into a numbered edition of 50 and 20 hors commerce impressions. The numbered edition of 50 was segmented as follows: 10 examples numbered 1-10 accompanied by each of the six graphics and an original ink drawing by Lepatre; 40 examples numbered 11-50 accompanied by each of the six graphics. The 20 hors commerce examples were numbered HC1-HC20 and complete the assignation of the 70 limited-edition examples. A commercial run of 2,000 copies was printed on Papeteries de Vizille vellum and numbered 71-2070. This run included 100 press copies numbered 2071-2170. The 60 roman-numbered impressions were printed with margins and measure 15 x 11 in. (38.1 x 27.9 cm). The artist's proofs were printed in two sizes: with margins measuring 15 x 11 in., and without margins measuring 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 in.
