Cecily Culver (Arizona State University) is a recipient of the 2015 Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture.
Fascinated by mundane objects and creatures, Culver romantically strives for a non-human perspective, marveling at what it might be like to experience the world from a thing’s standpoint. Some of her sculptural works recreate the undercurrents of daily activity: a life frequently closer to the ground. In transporting quotidian moments into the gallery space—like recreating the antennae of two roaches’ graceful exploration of the atmosphere above the drainpipe they inhabit—she hopes to transform the viewer’s everyday experiences.
