Daniel Alexander Matthews (Hunter College CUNY) is a recipient of the 2017 Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture.
Matthews’ art is informed by experiences of his emigration from Guyana to the United States when he was 13, as well as his interest in classical archaeology. Exploring the artifacts of emigration—including memories as well as objects—Matthews’ work explores the vulnerability and precariousness of those arriving and settling in a new country.
