Isla Hansen (Carnegie Mellon University) is a recipient of the 2015 Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture.
Hansen’s work manifests as sculpture, installation, video, and performance. She draws on popular media, consumer culture, and play to illuminate ways in which our bodies connect to technologies in the world around us. Hansen traces her playful relationship with technology to her childhood, when she ritually watched Sesame Street, The Brave Little Toaster, and Star Trek. In these programs technological objects had their own way of communicating. Accordingly, it is through a language of play that Hansen best communicates with technology.
