Jordan Loeppky-Kolesnik (Virginia Commonwealth University) is a recipient of the 2018 Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture.
Loeppky-Kolesnik’s installations are inspired by cinema and set design, creating narrative spaces that explore subjective emotional states and employ altered architecture. His works offer visceral sensory experiences that explore the affect of capitalist society and sense of place. He is interested in the breakdown of the art object, frequently creating in found spaces, melding with site and context. The artist explains: “I think of my installation works as live cinema, a situation the viewer encounters and becomes entangled with. I believe that speaking through these immersive sensory experiences can create a more immediate, intimate form of communication. By creating new ways of feeling in our bodies, I hope to bridge the gaps between us and create new opportunities for empathy and understanding.
