Misty EunJoo Choi (University of California, Los Angeles) is the recipient of a 2025 Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture.
Misty EunJoo Choi, born in Seoul, South Korea, is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work explores displacement, misfit, and embodied resistance through sculpture and performance. After relocating to the United States at 21, Choi experienced cultural and physical dislocation that continues to inform her practice. She reorients everyday gestures and objects—turning them strange, precarious, or dysfunctional—to challenge normative relationships between body, object, and space. Her works often invite humor, encouraging audiences to rethink control, conformity, and vulnerability through shared encounters.
Choi holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at CSULB Gallery (Long Beach), Rainbowcube Gallery (Seoul), and the CICA Museum (Gimpo), among others. In 2021, she self-published The Coffee I Drink Everyday Is Different But the Cigarette That the Man Smokes Is the Same, a poetic and fragmented reflection on memory, daily routine, and emotional estrangement. She is the recipient of the Arts Council Korea Research Fund (2022).
